Drawer Chest
Personalizing Your Chest of Drawers
Of all of our personal possessions, furniture has to be one with which we develop a very special, even nostalgic bond; our furniture comes to have a direct association with our character, with our tastes and our values, both in our own minds and in other people's minds. We seem to be able to remember years and years after a certain piece of furniture is lost (for whatever reason: broken, sold, stolen, etc.) the most minuscule details about its curves and angles, what little engraving it had on it, what is colors were, and how old it was. Given this relative importance that we place on our furniture (both consciously and subconsciously), it's nice to really give certain pieces of furniture a special, personal touch, and no piece of furniture receives as much use as your chest of drawers probably does.
No other piece of furniture is used quite as often nor is likely to be as functional. After all, we use our drawers to keep our clothes and other items, and typically we dress ourselves in front of it, constantly checking ourselves in the mirror (which is commonly built in to the chest), and we use the top of it to rest a lot of common objects, like lamps, for example. Considering just how much use it gets, it's nice to give your chest of drawers an individual, unique touch to it. Having every person in your home with their own, special chest will really spread a spirit of happiness and feng shui in your home that will be absolutely wonderful.
Let the chest of drawers conform to the person using it to get the maximum efficiency out of it. If, say, you have one in a young child's room, then keep it low down to the ground, not a double-stack version. If the kid has a lot of toys, then consider having one that is more chest than drawers, with maybe only a few drawers at the bottom, and plenty of trunk space to stow toys and other things, with a light kind of wood to make it easy for the youngster to open the lid. If it's in the room of a young lady obsessed with her physical appearance, than get one that has a mirror and lighting unit built into it. Also, consider colors, as at certain ages kids (and even adults) may choose one dominant color as a central theme in their room, and in general.
For a nice classy chest of drawers for adults with relatively classic tastes, go with a bold, varnished wood like cherry. Certain sets may be stacked shoulder-high with only drawers, whereas others may have several drawers coming up to waist-height or less, and a wardrobe placed on top (either all in one piece or removable, it's up to you). For a classy touch, get one with an elaborate, curvy top piece; most come with flat tops, but if it's so high up that you won't be resting anything on it, why not go for the aesthetic bonus of fine carpentry.
