How do I hide/remove scratches on a wood finish? My boyfriend was vacuuming and accidentally scratched the wood base of our loveseat. The finish is dark brown, almost black, and the scratches are a few inches long. We're not willing to sand, buff, and re-finish over a few small scratches. Since it's near the floor and hardly noticeable, a cosmetic solution would be best, like wax or oil. Any product recommendations or tips? Thanks! I think the wood is actually scratched, not just the finish, because I can see the light wood color underneath. You can buy a wax pen for such a job from the supermarket in the cleaning area, get the darkest you can find. I have done this myself by melting a dark brown crayon and filling the scratch or dark shoe polish or sometimes a brasil nut cut in half and rubbed over will work.

5 Wood Furniture Cleaning Tips

If you have wood surfaced pieces of furniture at home, it is important to take extra care of it since wood entails extra special care compared to non-wood home furnishings. Thus, cleaning is an important measure in order for you to take good care of your things. Below are some helpful cleaning tips that may be handy:

1. Protect it from direct heat of the sun.

The pieces of furniture you have should be displayed in areas where it cannot be reached by the direct heat of the sun. Too much heat from the sun will make your wood furnishings dried out. On extreme cases, it can remove the color of the wood.
